Roots to Rise: Growing More Than Food

A garden tower or chicken coop may seem simple, but to a family, it can mean something much bigger: food on the table today and the ability to provide for themselves tomorrow.

Our Roots to Rise program creates sustainable sources of food and income that keep giving long after the initial gift. Because we don't want to simply feed a family for a day, we want to give them the tools to keep feeding their family for years.

• More food in less space. Garden towers allow families to grow an incredible amount of food even when land is limited.
• Less water, more growing. Towers use about one-third less water than traditional horizontal gardens.
• Around 1,000 meals every year. One large garden tower can produce roughly 1,000 meals a year and last five to seven years.
• Food and opportunity. Our chicken coops provide nutritious eggs for family, with the potential for extra eggs to become a source of income.
• Happy chickens matter too. Our coops give chickens room to move, scratch, and forage naturally, because sustainability shouldn't come at the expense of humane treatment.
• Healthy chickens, nutritious eggs, stronger families. It really can be that simple.

Dignity Made by Girls, for Girls

Something as simple as having your period should never be the reason a girl misses school.

Our reusable DignityKits give girls what they need to manage their periods with confidence, dignity, and without having to sacrifice their education.

But there's another part of the story we love just as much.

These kits are sewn right in the community by girls at our Dignity CBO, girls who are learning a skill, earning opportunities, and discovering just how capable they are, all while creating something that gives another girl the freedom to stay in school.

They aren't just part of the solution, they're becoming heroes in their own stories.

03 · Skills & opportunity

Dignity CBO Sewing Center: Where Girls Build Their Own Futures

The Dignity CBO is the heart of so much of what we do. Under the guidance of Esther, our Director of Operations, girls are learning far more than how to use a sewing machine. They are learning practical skills, discovering what they are capable of, earning income, and gaining the kind of confidence that comes from being able to say, "I made this."

And they are making some pretty incredible things.

The girls sew the reusable DignityKits we distribute to schoolgirls throughout the region. They make clothing and school uniforms. They create many of the handmade items we sell to help support the program. And they are even learning to construct our garden towers, taking skills that began inside the sewing center and using them to help other families grow food.

Esther is there through all of it, teaching, encouraging, mentoring, and making sure each girl knows that her future can be bigger than the circumstances she was born into.

What began as a place to learn sewing has become a place where girls find purpose, opportunity, friendship, and confidence. They aren't simply receiving help. They are becoming the skilled hands behind the solutions we bring into their own communities.

And perhaps that is the part we love the most. They are becoming the heroes in their own stories.

04 · Immediate family support

Hope at Home

Hope at Home provides practical support when a child or family is facing a need that simply can't wait. From beds, mattresses, bedding, and other household necessities to emergency food assistance and school lunches, we work alongside local communities to identify where help is truly needed and respond in a meaningful way.

Sometimes creating opportunity starts with something as simple as a safe place to sleep, a meal at school, or knowing there will be food at home. Hope at Home helps meet those immediate needs so children and families have a stronger foundation to move forward.
